| Needing something inspirational to help keep myself focused in a newly found yoga practice, I received the CD as a gift. Much of the new age music I listened to before didn't seem to ring true to my heart. A classically trained pianist, I had first turned to Mozart and Chopin to lend a hand in my quest for internal insight, but my mind wandered, thinking of where my fingers would be if I'd been tinkling the ivory keys myself. Then I tried the music of James Michael Wisniewski (as he's affectionately called by friends and colleagues alike). The results astounded me. |
| The songs are hauntingly mesmerizing. Aptly named: Creation, Ascension, Devotion and Celebration, each builds upon the other, offering periodic crescendos, which are perfect for any yoga or meditative practice - let alone for a massage or healing exercise. |
| The album is Native American in nature, possibly because it is played on the bamboo flute, yet it was recorded after Wisniewski ambled over the Brooklyn Bridge one summer evening, with this classically trained flute master recording Urban Meditations in just one sitting. |
| I don't think of New York when I hear Urban Meditations, though. I envision the small Florida city in which I live. But, I think that's the magic of Urban Meditations - it helps you appreciate where you are at this present moment. Not wishing to be anywhere else in the world. |
